Their project to buy a Power 67 after a first experience on the MY5

After fully experiencing their Fountaine Pajot MY5 in the Caribbean, this family from Puerto Rico decided to think bigger and to acquire a model in the range with an even greater capacity in order to pursue their many family trips and invite friends aboard… and has chosen the POWER67.

“My family has been involved in the boating industry, but I never owned my own boat until we bought the MY5,” says Frank. “We love the water life – it’s just unbelievable on the ocean.” Along with their three kids, Frank and Marcella divide most of their time between Puerto Rico and Miami – and the boat follows them. But their favourite cruising grounds are around the balmy island-strewn waters of Puerto Rico, with their beaches, snorkelling and marine life. “We go out from Fajardo on the east coast and we sail from there to a number of neighbouring islands – Palominos Island and Icacos. Sometimes we take a longer journey to Culebra and Culebrita. We spend a lot of time in those islands.”

They all lie within six miles of the home marina – an easy 20-minute burn at our Fountaine Pajot’s 18-knot cruising speed. But further east lies the treasure trove that is the US Virgin Islands. “Every now and then we’ll cross to St Thomas – it feels a bit of a blender sometimes, that journey, where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean Sea. “The crossing is one-and-a-half hours if the weather conditions are good.

Usually, we do get good conditions, but this one time we were expecting 6-8ft of swell only to find 8-12ft. There were about 20 knots of wind and the kids were there – they didn’t say a word. But they were all excited about it as soon as we reached the harbour – couldn’t wait until they told their friends!”

Now, the MY5 has become a familiar friend for the whole family. “We know every nook and cranny of it,” says Frank. “The kids help out – everybody has a job, we love it.” But with a new project on the horizon, he began to think about a bigger boat. “We are always trying to hang out with friends,” he explains. “Our goal is to explore all sorts of spots in the Bahamas.

We could do it in the MY5, but we want to invite more people along. With the new Fountaine Pajot Power 67 we’ll have up to 6 beds with all the comforts of a flagship.”

The family’s new Fountaine Pajot Power 67 will be delivered in 2023 and they plan to head straight off on their adventures. “We’ll start in Bimini and work our way across to the Exumas. All told, we’ll take a month for the Bahamas experience then hop back to Miami.” There are other advantages to this power cat, as well.

Frank has chosen the extra power package which gives 60 per cent more horsepower with twin 480 hp engines.

“That means I can speed it up to 24 knots if I need to. Fountaine Pajot were responsive to all our requests. I’m getting a davit system for the jetski on the foredeck, mounted on top of the Jacuzzi. And the platform aft is big enough for an Apex A15 tender.”

The master stateroom is naturally on an even grander scale than the 38 ft MY5. Plus there is space for two VIP doubles aft and another two cabins with bunks for the kids. “It’s such a fantastic boat for us a family, we said we need to go to the next level. We looked at other brands, but we came right back to what we like.”
